چکیده

We investigate the growth of the number wk of walks of length k in undirected graphs as well as related inequalities. We provide an insight into the relations between certain combinatorial properties of graphs and (spectral) algebraical characterizations in terms of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix. We show that the inequality w2a · w2(a+b+c) ≥ w2a+c · w2(a+b)+c is valid for all graphs, which is a generalization of the inequality w2a · w2b ≥ w a+b published by Dress and Gutman. We also show a similar sandwich theorem for the number of closed walks starting at a given vertex. Further, we prove that w2`+pk · wk−1 2` ≥ w 2`+p for all k, `, p ∈ N, which is another generalization of the inequality by Dress and Gutman and at the same time also a generalization of an inequality published by Erdős and Simonovits. Both results can be translated directly into the corresponding forms using the higher order densities instead of the number of walks. Furthermore, we provide two families of lower bounds for the spectral radius of the adjacency matrix (in terms of the number of closed walks starting at a specified vertex) that generalize a bound published by Nosal. We also show monotonicity, i.e., the method yields better bounds with increasing walk lengths. In the last part of the paper, we investigate several special cases w. r. t. the graph class as well as regarding the inequality. We show, that there are connected bipartite graphs as well as unconnected cycle-free graphs that violate the inequality w3 ≥ d̄ · w2. In contrast, we show that surprisingly this inequality is always satisfied for trees and we show how to construct worst-case instances (w. r. t. the difference of both sides of the inequality) for a given degree sequence. We also provide a proof for the inequality w5 ≥ d̄ ·w4 for trees and conclude with a corresponding conjecture for longer walks.

The second geometric-arithmetic index for trees and unicyclic graphs

Let $G$ be a finite and simple graph with edge set $E(G)$. The second geometric-arithmetic index is defined as $GA_2(G)=sum_{uvin E(G)}frac{2sqrt{n_un_v}}{n_u+n_v}$, where $n_u$ denotes the number of vertices in $G$ lying closer to $u$ than to $v$. In this paper we find a sharp upper bound for $GA_2(T)$, where $T$ is tree, in terms of the order and maximum degree o...

On Generalized Coprime Graphs

Paul Erdos defined the concept of coprime graph and studied about cycles in coprime graphs. In this paper this concept is generalized and a new graph called Generalized coprime graph is introduced. Having observed certain basic properties of the new graph it is proved that the chromatic number and the clique number of some generalized coprime graphs are equal.

NUMBER OF SPANNING TREES FOR DIFFERENT PRODUCT GRAPHS

In this paper simple formulae are derived for calculating the number of spanning trees of different product graphs. The products considered in here consists of Cartesian, strong Cartesian, direct, Lexicographic and double graph. For this purpose, the Laplacian matrices of these product graphs are used. Form some of these products simple formulae are derived and whenever direct formulation was n...

More inequalities for Laplacian indices by way of majorization

The n-tuple of Laplacian characteristic values of a graph is majorized by the conjugate sequence of its degrees. Using that result we find a collection of general inequalities for a number of Laplacian indices expressed in terms of the conjugate degrees, and then with a maximality argument, we find tight general bounds expressed in terms of the size of the vertex set n and the average degree dG...

Roman domination excellent graphs: trees

A Roman dominating function (RDF) on a graph $G = (V, E)$ is a labeling $f : V rightarrow {0, 1, 2}$ suchthat every vertex with label $0$ has a neighbor with label $2$. The weight of $f$ is the value $f(V) = Sigma_{vin V} f(v)$The Roman domination number, $gamma_R(G)$, of $G$ is theminimum weight of an RDF on $G$.An RDF of minimum weight is called a $gamma_R$-function.A graph G is said to be $g...
